The workshop is now over. See the survey results for over all impressions.
The CARO Workshop were brought into existence to expand CARO's mission of fostering trust and cooperation between individuals in the antivirus industry. Each workshop attracts over 100 participants and is usually heavily oversubscribed. Specialists from F-Secure, Microsoft, Symantec, Trend Micro, McAfee, Avast, Avira and many more companies are regular participants.
CARO is a very technical workshop but we don't focus on malware analysis exclusively. Each year we pick a different topic and this year the focus will be on Web vulnerabilities and remedies. See the Call For Papers for further details.
While the workshop is conference in character - talks in front of an audience - discussion is strongly encouraged. This year, we are trying something new: lightning talks. These are 5 minutes in length and the talks themselves only provide a starting point for discussion that will then commence in the following extended break. This way, more participants will be able to introduce themselves early on in the conference and provoke the conversation we want.
CARO Workshops are unique in that they do not permit media to join and because we follow a strict no recording policy. We would like speakers to publish their slides and a paper, but there is no requirement to do so. This means that discussion can be freer than in more open events. We also reserve the right to turn down participants if their trustworthiness cannot be established.
The Workshop will be held on May 14-15, 2012.
This year, the workshop will be held outside the city of Munich, Germany, near to the towns of Erding and Freising and bordering on the Munich Airport.
